Or is that... Tales of the Homeless at the Laundromat??
I'm starting to think I'm a bigot: everyone at the laundromat seems homeless to me. Although today's guy again had a shopping cart, a 40 oz. beer, and... of all things: a new jacket and a CD player. He couldn't get the CD player to work and I ended up giving it a thorough once-over with my trouble-shootin' eye. Perfection.
You know... it always amazes me what these people without homes, have in their little carts. Like a shaving kit and freshly washed clothes. A little house-on-wheels. Their priorities to buy (I'm guessing he bought it) CD players and batteries... Tunes, but no home to play them in.
Poverty makes me sick. People who are not employable and living out on the street makes me sick. What The Hell Happened in Sacramento, to MAKE THEM CLOSE ALL OF THE RESCUE MISSIONS???? It's not the fault every homeless person that they are on the street. Some are mentall ill. Some are addicts.
For a state of liberals, I have to say: SHAME ON YOU FOR LETTING THIS BE THE STATUS QUO.
FYI: I'm not taking responsibility yet, because I've only been in the state for a few months. But Dot ain't gonna take this lying down.
Peace, and Happy New Year.
Dot.

It's sad really, that they close down the missions and homeless shelters and what not. I suppose there isn't enough funds or people to run them.
I know we have homeless up here, but honestly you don't really see it. You can guess at some that they might be homeless, but for the most part I don't think they are all that visible. Maybe the places they stay aren't on the main drags, I don't know. But you can walk down main street and not see any...but like I said, you know they are there somewhere.
What do you plan on doing to help? You said you weren't going to take it lying down, and I'm just curious as to your thoughts.

I'm doing several things:
1) Donating via payroll deduction every month, to a charity called "Loaves and Fishes" that gives the homeless folks boxed meals each and every day -- 2000 calories, which is supposed to last all day. This inclueds a hot breakfast.
2) Volunteering.
3) Raising public awareness by talking to my friends and coworkers, and writing my legislators.
That's it for now. I can't think of how someone like myself could do more. Any ideas are welcome.
A twin after my own heart!
Funny how I work for Loaves and Fishes here, but it's an emergency food bank, not a daily 'do.

Those are awesome ways to help out! Does it get cold there at night? If so, what about collecting blankets, hats, mits, etc. to help them keep a little warmer.
